Groups & Pages

Hola amigos! I blogged about Wisdom of the Crowds in my last post. I hope you learn something from it and so, wondering what I’d be blogging now?

As the title suggests, it’ll be about Groups & Pages, those found on Facebook. Facebook is a global social networking website and has been ranked the most used social network by worldwide monthly users. I received this information from Wikipedia.

Thanks to my classmates, Nadine & Samantha, for their detailed NCT discussion lead on Facebook Groups & Pages last week. They managed to explain the differences between Groups & Pages. They also did an activity which clearly showed our (the rest of my classmates & I) understanding of these two functions. Anyway, you can follow Nadine @nadina89 & Samantha @s_wan22 on Twitter.

In summary, Groups are used for a personal interaction channel amongst Facebook users. Pages are used for commercial purposes to get in touch with a diverse range of Facebook users, which could exceed the limit of 5000 friends on an individual’s list. I found a website which helps me to understand the differences in a simpler way. Give http://mashable.com/2009/05/27/facebook-page-vs-group/ a try & I’m sure it helps.

I realised I’m a member of 47 Groups & a fan of 31 Pages. Likewise, I’m an officer in a secret group. I like my title and I’m on a rank below the creator of this secret group. I understand the purpose of having this secret group but so far, I can say it’s inactive. I posted up a topic for discussion but no one participate in it. I’m upset upon it and deleted my posts. The next time if I’ve announcement for the members of this secret group, I’ll just send a mass message.

I believe that’s one of Facebook Groups’ limitations. One has to be active on a particular Group, especially if it’s a secret group, to stay updated. If not, there’ll be lots of inactive Groups on Facebook & you might considered yourself, out of the group.
