What’s on my Twitter & Facebook?

Hola amigos! I have been reading a lot from the internet. If you’re smart with your search terms, you’ll be able to find relevant informative sources. I always feel there are more I can do while online.

My frequent visits are Facebook and Twitter. Instead of attempting fascinating applications or joining silly groups on Facebook, I share useful links. The recent link I shared is about the benefits of smiling.

Smiling is actually a natural face lift. I was enlightened when I discovered it. If you want to stay young and attractive, be the light. As often said, a smile lightens up the room.

There are more reasons for me to smile. I like Spain and often explore more about it. I check on tour packages and even plan for a vacation. Of course, I need to know more.

I came across Spain Travel Guide. I enjoy reading the information posted by Damian Corrigan. He’s a writer that travels in Spain and shares his experience on the land of flamenco.

Delightfully, he has a Twitter account. You got it right, I am following him, @gospain. I asked him if there were any Muslim tours in Spain but there isn’t.

Nevertheless, I was contented when Damian Corrigan assured me about Muslim sites in Spain. I believe he’s working on an article about this. Indeed, I am looking forward.

Not only I manage to share and/or receive information with Twitter and Facebook, I’m encourage to be involved in networking. Therefore, knowing how to leverage on your Twitter and Facebook account, you can reap benefits from them.

The next time you don’t know what to do with your Facebook and/or Twitter, you can follow what I’m doing.

Hola amigos! After removing those cobwebs, finally, I could write a post. To let you know, I’m in my third week of internship now. I am pleased with my work for they are relevant to my internship goals.

Here are my objectives:

  • To discover the job scope of Corporate Communications
  • To write for the media
  • To be involved in media events
  • To be involved in media liaison
  • To be involved in networking

I have been given assignments that required me to do research. I believe we should thank the Internet. It’s easy to search online but a good search ensures good work ultimately.

Due to my work, I have to face the laptop everyday. Likewise, I’m prone to check what people are twittering and blogging about. I get lots of different ideas when I visit these social media platforms.

Currently, I like Chris Brogan. His blog is user-friendly and interactive. I like the way he communicates on his posts. It’s as if he’s conversing and I believe that’s good style of blogging.

Likewise, his posts have interesting contents. I enjoy reading his advices and updates. He communicates good deeds on using Twitter and blogs. He encourages improvement on the way you twit and blog.

I know some people like to twit or blog about their daily rantings. If you’re still doing that, I think you’re still in last season. Get ahead of time my amigo, or at least, follow it.

Stalked

Hola! Yesterday, Wednesday, 4th November 2009, Pat Law was invited as a guest during NCT lecture. You can find out more about her through her blog, http://blankanvas.bypatlaw.com/ , and of course, follow her on Twitter @patlaw.

She was invited to educate my schoolmates & I on websites whereby you can know about your status online. You can check your progress & statistics of your online activities through various credible websites. Once you check them out, the results are incredible.

Here are some of the websites which enlightened me:

You can check ALL of the relevant websites on one of my schoolmates’ blog. Visit http://citysand.wordpress.com/. Likewise, you can follow him on Twitter @omgzam. I really like the way he blogs. He has an interesting and informative news angle.

I realised with the advancement of technologies and social media, one has to be careful and tactful whenever he/she is online. You may have limited or even, no privacy, when you’re on the virtual world. Anyone from a spot in this world has the ability to spy on you, provided he has internet access.

If you have posted your home address or any personal particulars online, beware. You might never know who’s following you.

Groups & Pages

Hola amigos! I blogged about Wisdom of the Crowds in my last post. I hope you learn something from it and so, wondering what I’d be blogging now?

As the title suggests, it’ll be about Groups & Pages, those found on Facebook. Facebook is a global social networking website and has been ranked the most used social network by worldwide monthly users. I received this information from Wikipedia.

Thanks to my classmates, Nadine & Samantha, for their detailed NCT discussion lead on Facebook Groups & Pages last week. They managed to explain the differences between Groups & Pages. They also did an activity which clearly showed our (the rest of my classmates & I) understanding of these two functions. Anyway, you can follow Nadine @nadina89 & Samantha @s_wan22 on Twitter.

In summary, Groups are used for a personal interaction channel amongst Facebook users. Pages are used for commercial purposes to get in touch with a diverse range of Facebook users, which could exceed the limit of 5000 friends on an individual’s list. I found a website which helps me to understand the differences in a simpler way. Give http://mashable.com/2009/05/27/facebook-page-vs-group/ a try & I’m sure it helps.

I realised I’m a member of 47 Groups & a fan of 31 Pages. Likewise, I’m an officer in a secret group. I like my title and I’m on a rank below the creator of this secret group. I understand the purpose of having this secret group but so far, I can say it’s inactive. I posted up a topic for discussion but no one participate in it. I’m upset upon it and deleted my posts. The next time if I’ve announcement for the members of this secret group, I’ll just send a mass message.

I believe that’s one of Facebook Groups’ limitations. One has to be active on a particular Group, especially if it’s a secret group, to stay updated. If not, there’ll be lots of inactive Groups on Facebook & you might considered yourself, out of the group.

Wisdom of the Crowds

Hola amigos! Bienvenido! Here I am blogging at WordPress to tell you that I enjoyed myself during New Communications Technologies (NCT) tutorial today. My classmates, Cassandra & Trixia, led a discussion on Wisdom of the Crowds. I like their activities which test on the theory of people getting together can provide a more accurate answer/decision than someone who did an activity on their own.

You can follow my classmates, Cassandra & Trixia, respectively on their Twitter account, @pickaline & @trixiave .

There are four elements that contribute to wisdom of the crowd. The crowd has to be of diversity in opinion. Next, each opinion made has to be independent, which means one’s opinion should not be influenced by others. Likewise, the crowd should not be concentrated. It should be decentralised. Lastly, the need for a mechanism to accumulate each opinion into a collective decision, which is known as aggregation.

They also showed us a video which explains what wisdom of the crowd is all about. It’s interesting & amusing.

We played a game called “Polar Bear” for their last activity. It’s a group activity whereby two persons from the group, will be chosen to be either the “Killer” & “Healer” respectively. All of us had to close our eyes as the Killer & Healer were chosen. Next, the Killer would have its chance of killing someone in the group except himself. Then, it’s the healer’s turn to choose someone to heal, including itself.

These were done with all members’ eyes closed. The victim was announced & all of us had to guess who’s the Killer. It’s tricky as none of us knew who exactly was the Killer. All we could do was to discuss & come to a decision on the suspected Killer. We played for three rounds and none of our decisions were correct in guessing the Killer.

It was fun & interactive for there’s suspicion going on. Lots of suspects were introduced as there were different guesses going on simultaneously. I was excited for I got to be the Killer & victim during the respective rounds of game.

As a class, we also wished Ms Kwa a happy birthday! We also camwhored with her newly bought mini camera. She bought it online and there’s no screen. When you take a picture, you have to look through the lens manually like those cameras back in the old days.

I like the idea of having to upload your pictures quickly once you’re done taking pictures. That’s what Ms Kwa’s cute camera can do. Although the images aren’t as clear as the digicams now, it’s good for those who loves to camwhore & don’t like any flaws to be seen. That’s because your face will have a glowing effect and your face will appear smooth, bright, clean & clear.

I learned about Wisdom of the Crowds today & it’s knowledge gained. Well, what about crowds in public transports, do they have wisdom?

1st week of campus life

Hola amigos! Welcome to my other blog & now it’s on WordPress. I’ve to create an account here in relations to my Diploma in Media & Communications (DMC) assignment & requirement. It’s for New Communications Technologies module. Likewise, I’m expected to tweet in order to pass this module. It’s all about social media.

Professional Preparation is another module that I’m taking. I’ll be learning on how to write resumes, cover letters & creating my portfolio. Moreover, this module teaches on social, business & dining etiquette.

While curious & excited about my internship, I’m disheartened to know that I’m only left with six weeks in campus. Hence, the limited time that I’d get to spend with my DMC lecturers, schoolmates, classmates & of course, my lovely SP amigos.

I’ll be missing these buddies of mine a lot who are none other than LeeYan, Jovis, Aileen, Priya & Syawal. I’d also like to spend the time left with my classmates. I do love them but it’s just me who don’t interact much. Only now I understand the importance of being sociable. Maybe it’s a bit too late?

Now the first week of Year 3, Semester 2 is over just like that. This shows how fast time flies. So, there are five more weeks left. I’ll be embracing the time left before I’m off for the real world.

Anyway, I like WordPress & still new with it. I tried to have the Image widget on my sidebar but couldn’t upload any pictures. I uploaded my picture on Photobucket but the widget didn’t save the URL provided. So, could anyone assist me on this? Thank you.

I’ll be blogging regarding my campus life, internship & anything corporate here. That’s why I called this blog “My Life as Aqmar ~ Corporate Style”. For my personal side of life, I bet you know where it is. I welcome you to my life as Aqmar. Adios amigos!
